Get YourSelf an Education {or, What i Learned in 2006: a Musical Journey}
Wednesday, December 6th, 2006This is my first attempt at a ‘year’ mixtape … I started out creating this on the basis of music I discovered in 2006, not caring whether or not it was actually released in 2006. There’s even a couple songs I discovered at the very end of 2005. So right off the bat, I’ve already broken my own rule. oh well. fuckit.
Here, you’ll find the most mainstream of mainstream all the way to the indiest of indie (read: myspace is the closest thing they have to a label). There are some of my favorite local artists (atl), who I’m sure will slowly creep into ears of folks across the nation/world. There’s country, dance, pop, remixes, covers, remixes of remixes, anti-folk, hipster gypsy, acoustic punk, songs that were performed on tv shows … from atlanta, austin, japan, athens, england, brooklyn, gypsy communes in eastern europe, brazil, and i’m sure more i’m not even aware of.
My first version of the mixtape clocked in around 90 minutes. Now that just won’t do for a mixtape meant for the world of cds.
