So because i write a blog, i get a lot of spam from people trying to get me to blog about their new music. I delete most of it, because it’s crap. Here’s some stuff I found promising.
The Little Ones – ‘Morning Tide (Django Django Remix)’
Ravens & Chimes – So Long, Marianne [Leonard Cohen cover]
Evan Voytas – Never My Love [Association cover]
Evan Voytas – The Yellow World of 83
there’s still a part of me that doesn’t quite believe or grasp that i can never go to dsc again. some of my favorite moments in my post-college atlanta life were at dsc with many of my best friends. the first thing i’d do with out-of-town friends was go to dsc. i used to describe my fridays as three days: day 1 was when i’d work from 9-5; day 2 was dinner & hanging out with friends from 5-12; day 3 would be dsc from 12-4 and then breakfast or whatever from 4-6ish. how my body somehow got used to being awake for 21 hours or so every friday i’ll never know.
it was at dsc where i got my education in the indie and dance scenes. everything from clap your hands say yeah to hot chip to mia to ti to 36mafia to wahtever else in between. i learned to dance at mjq, but dsc was what i fell in love with. the best part was the sheer joy that people exhibited when dancing and singing aloud, on the floors, on the benches, on the speakers, wherever. kenny. rob. preston. sonny. biluxi. warren. dylan. black sunshine. i never really knew these guys, but they were inevitably at dsc come friday nite, rockin it out till the sun comes up.
when a loved one passes on, one likes to sit around with other close friends and family and remember the good times. one of my favorite highlights was opening nite of ‘snakes on a plane’ when preston laid out the uber-awesome yet so awfully poppy title track by cobra starship. with plastic snakes on our fingers, my friends & i hissed at each other and sang at the top of our lungs. whenever our beloved local band snowden came on via le castle vania’s cover of ‘black eyes’, you could count on the dancefloor being packed and everyone jumping up and down and up and down, loving every minute. when 3:45am rolled around and the bartenders had thrown the lights on, much to our dismay, the dj would spin some kryptonite, the floor would clear of the girls fearing for their lives, and the rest of us would turn azul into what some would call a hiphop mosh pit, as we attempted to stay vertical on the floor rather wet from hours of spilt beers.
i present to you a muxtape where you can explore the best of what i remember from those fantastic months/years at dsc. i’m sure i’ve left out great songs, but i’m limited to my memory and the 12-song limit of muxtape. i invite you to create your own muxtape and share it with us all.
saturday through thursday, azul was merely a good burrito joint. but on friday nites from midnite-4am, we turned that shit inside out.

dsc, we’ll always love you.

i’m falling in love with the new sigur ros track, gobbledigook, off their upcoming album, Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust [translated: With a buzz in our ears we play endlessly]. can’t wait for the rest! june 23 won’t come fast enough

a special message from Tova Rinah:
Hello!
This is Tova Rinah. I am recording a new album. Many of you will remember when I played with the former members of the Way Home, how we pre-sold albums to raise the money for the very expensive studio costs. Well, the new Way Home line-up and myself are pre-selling albums again, but this time it is for a full-length album that is ready to go! It has a name, an order for the songs, many creative musical ideas waiting to come to life and a calendar date set from mid-May to mid-June with a very talented producer named Mike Odmark in Nashville. Last time, with the pre-selling and fund raising, we were able to put a pay-pal link with the information up on our MySpace account. Pay-Pal is not presently allowing for links on MySpace. If any of you are interested in pre-buying an album to help raise funds for the record, all you have to do is go to www. paypal. com. You do not need a pay-pal account to use it. You’d go to Send Money and type in my email address, tova.rinah@gmail.com. I am asking $15 for this upcoming full-length album. Also, if you choose to pre-buy an album, please include your email address and shipping address. This information is important, so I can get a copy of the album to you when they are pressed and packaged and ready to go!!! They should be ready by late Summer/early Fall. I appreciate any one who is inclined to support this musical endeavor. Did you know that a well-done full-length album from start to finish can cost the same as a down-payment on a home? Well, I have been able to save a good deal towards the record expenses but I am still in need of anyone who is willing to come along side and help make this album a reality by pre-buying.
Thank you very, very much!
Sincerely,
Tova

So it’s finally happened. Through the efforts of WAKE Radio students, alumni, faculty, staff, friends, and other various & sundry folks, student radio is finally returning to WFDD this Thursday! You’ll be able to pick it up online or via hd3 on 88.5-3 FM in the greater Triad area [north carolina]. If you don’t know, this is terribly exciting for me and everyone that’s tried to get wake radio back on the air! I applaud the administration at Wake Forest University and the wonderful staff of WFDD, along with the tireless advisors of WAKE Radio over the years! We’ve finally done it
I thought this might be appropriate/nostalgic/whatever. here’s a show i did senior year of college with miss sara fauske lamback [in march 2004]. it’s called “deaconlight: resurrected,” in honor of deaconlight from wfdd. the track’s are all askew — some are 2 minutes long, some are 19 minutes long. altogether, it’s roughly an hour. i hope you enjoy

press release:
Winston-Salem, NC — 88.5 WFDD, the Piedmont Triad’s public radio station, announced that it will officially launch its third digital channel, WFDD-3, featuring an eclectic blend of roots, traditional, folk, world music, and the best of college and indie rock from WAKE Radio, on Thursday, April 3, 2008.
Weekday programming on WFDD-3 will include a daily dose of indie rock, singer-songwriters, folk, alternative country, blues, and world music from NPR’s World Café; the best in locally produced college radio from WFU student run WAKE Radio; and a nightly, nicely chilled plate of ambient beats and grooves on Groove Salad. On the weekends, WFDD-3 will feature the best of singer/songwriter, Celtic, acoustic, Americana, traditional, and world sounds from Folk Alley; local performances from the Triad folk music organization The Fiddle and Bow Society; a Sunday rebroadcast of NPR’s weekly Celtic music showcase The Thistle and Shamrock; and weekly, relaxed live performances from some of the world’s greatest artists on Mountain Stage from Public Radio International.
More than 1,500 radio stations nationwide are broadcasting with HD Radio technology and more than 700 of those stations are offering multicast channels, as WFDD does. There is no subscription fee for HD Radio, but listeners will need an HD Radio to hear the digital broadcasts. Many area retailers are now stocking a variety of HD Radios and dozens of HD Radio models, for home and car use, are available online. Listeners without HD Radios can continue to listen the current programming as usual, or can stream the digital channels from the station’s website, wfdd.org. HD Radio is a copyrighted term owned by iBiquity Digital Corporation.
WFDD previously launched WFDD-2, which includes the classical music showcase Performance Today, opera performances every Saturday, including the Metropolitan Opera, and area symphony and choral music performances.
General Manager Denise Franklin stated that, “HD Radio is the future. With WFDD-3 we are able to provide programming that is simply not available over the air in the Triad. Adding this eclectic mix of music to our programming offerings allows us to give listeners something we know they are looking for.”
88.5 WFDD, the NPR® News and Triad Arts Station broadcasting from Wake Forest University, is the only public radio station of its kind located in the Piedmont Triad. It broadcasts news, information, and public affairs programming covering the arts, people, and institutions in the area from both its Winston-Salem and Greensboro studios. The state’s charter NPR® member, 88.5 WFDD is the longest continuously broadcasting public radio station in North Carolina. It is a member of the North Carolina Public Radio Association.

jump, little children – easter parade
[purchase jump's the early years, vol 1]
Jack Bauer once saved a young boy from a terrorist attack. As thanks, the boy gave Jack his pet rabbit. The rabbit, upon seeing Jack, got so excited that it shat an egg. Jack then said to him, “What the fuck is wrong with your rabbit??”, decided he didn’t want a rabbit that shat eggs, and proceeded to eat it in front of the boy. The boy started crying, and Jack said, “Hey, what’s the matter? Here, have an egg”. That day is now referred to as Easter.
