Back in Winston…
10th October, 2004I just returned from travelling to Boston and Providence, and thus will not post a very long post, but i wanted to post a couple things. First off, I rediscovered the beauty of a record store! They have them in boston! imagine that. Anyways, I purchased some very quality albums while there, in no particular order:
mono – walking cloud & deep red sky flag fluttered and the sun shined
john coltrane – my favorite things
van morrison – moondance
sondre lerche – don’t be shallow ep
and here are some highlights from the rolling stone that i thought were funny/amusing in some way:
buddy nielsen, singer for senses fail (a new pop punk “sensation”): “i read this essay on existentialism, and i’m just confused. … i tried to read plato’s republic because i’m like, ‘i gotta read this — it’s a classic’.”
trey parker, creator of new movie, team america: world police: “if anyone walks out of this movie, or a michael moore movie, thinking about voting a different way, then they’re fucking stupid and shouldn’t be voting. … If this movie makes you think that much, you’re too weak-kneed to vote.”
and, regarding p diddy’s ‘vote or die’ campaign: “‘I think just saying ‘Vote or Die’ is a serious danger to democracy,’ Stone says, as Parker breaks into a Cartman-esque voice for a mocking public-service message: ‘Hey, nineteen-year-old who doesn’t know anything — you choose.’ ‘If you don’t know what you’re talking about, there’s no shame in not voting,’ Stone says finally. ‘They say if you don’t vote, you can’t bitch. But you can bitch all you want. This is America.’”
And finally, thanks to Melissa, we can all check out:
Wake Forest Children’s Book “A Season with The Deacon”, only on ebay
anyways, that’s all for now. i think i’ll post a review of the mono album sometime soon..it sounds incredible so far.
