Michael Moore
18th July, 2004Okay, so I’ve seen Bowling for Columbine and Farenheit 9/11. I’ve talked with many folks in depth about both of these movies. I cannot begin to type out the entire dialogue, so I will briefly present my thoughts on Michael Moore in general. I have watched these two movies with a grain of salt. I refuse to believe everything that he says, most of which is based on statistics that he never explains or expounds upon enough to satisfy me, or else through the process of editing, gives us a false impression of what is actually happening.
I recently heard about the new movie, “Michael Moore Hates America.” While perusing this movie’s website, I eventually came upon this page: The Truth about Bowling For Columbine. It’s rather long, but well worth the read. It presents 9 major points of criticism of the movie and explains what Michael Moore has done to deceive or mislead us in the process. I encourage you to read this in all seriousness, and then rewatch the movie with the same degree of seriousness. In doing so, you can simultaneously consider two alternating points of view and come up with your own idea of what really happened. Mmmmmm, Socratic dialogue is delicious, isn’t it?
Until we meet again,
Rob

A short addendum…here’s a description of Michael Moore from John McCain’s speech at the 2004 Republican National Convention:
“…a disingenuous film maker who would have us believe that Saddam’s Iraq was an oasis of peace when in fact it was a place of indescribable cruelty, torture chambers, mass graves and prisons that destroyed the lives of the small children held inside their walls.”
